Perhaps the role he is most often associated with, Wayne Hu's portrayal of the King of Siam in Rodgers & Hammerstein's The King & I was described by critics and audience members as "moving", "powerful", and "a truly great king". In September of 2002, Phoenix Production's run of The King & I, also featuring Marybeth Dorman Jacobson, Amy Polombo, and Tammy McKillup, entertained sold-out audiences for two weekends at the 1406 seat Count Basie Theater in Red Bank.
